Does my hair qualify for the ‘Coiled Hair Treatment’?

The Coiled Hair Treatment is applied to hair types 3C to 4C.
TheCurled-Coiled Hair Screening is applied to hair types 3A to 4C.

You can determine your hair type based on the table below .

ATTENTION: If you have booked a ‘Coiled Hair’ treatment or screening , and during the appointment, it turns out that your hair does not fall under type 3C to 4C, we regretfully have to charge the ‘Coiled Hair’ rate .

Coiled hair requires a different, much more time-consuming combing technique than straight or curly hair of type 2A-3B, for which we schedule additional treatment hours and/or specialists who come specifically for this purpose to the clinic.
These are additional costs that we incur in advance for the appointment.

If you are in doubt, you can send a photo of your hair to the relevant Lice Clinic Location where you will have the appointment.

Only hair types 3C to 4C require the Lice Clinic Coiled Hair Treatment:

Can lice occur in afro-textured hair?

Many people think that lice do not occur in afro-textured hair. Unfortunately, we have to debunk this; in our lice clinics we regularly encounter active infestations in afro-textured hair.

So, how does that work?

Lice have six legs, each ending with a small claw. These claws are shaped to perfectly grip the thickness and shape of a hair, giving the louse a good hold. And here is the key point: the shape of the hair determines how easily a louse can cling. Straight hair is round in cross-section, while curly or afro-textured hair is oval. Head lice found in a country with a predominant hair type adapt to that type of hair and have the best grip on it. When a louse ends up on a different hair type, it moves less easily and may prefer another host.

It is therefore true that afro-textured hair is less frequently infested with head lice, but once a louse has adapted to the oval shape of afro-textured hair, it can live and reproduce there perfectly.

Lice treatment for afro-textured hair

Afro-textured hair with an active infestation is difficult to treat. Combing with a fine-tooth comb is a time-consuming process: unlike straight hair, you cannot simply comb from the scalp to the ends. Combing must be done in a very specific way, which is labor-intensive. Only by combing consistently for 14 days is there a good chance of success, as lice shampoos never guarantee to kill all eggs. In short, afro-textured hair is less likely to get lice, but once an infestation is present, it is difficult to remove.

Fortunately, we specialize in lice treatment for all hair types. In our clinics, you are guaranteed to be 100% lice-free in a single treatment as with other hair types, with three options to choose from:

  • Budget Treatment: everything is killed 100%, but without combing. The glue that holds the eggs to the hair is also dried out by our treatment device, causing the dead eggs to fall off over time. This can take several weeks to months.

  • Premium Treatment: everything is killed 100% and combing is performed. This takes more time, making it more expensive. It is important to come to the clinic with well-combed hair or, even better, straightened hair.

  • Home Treatment: you can also choose the home treatment, which also works guaranteed if the instructions are followed precisely. This requires seven combing sessions spread over 14 days, with the help of someone assisting you recommended.
